AZDMF’s mission is to foster life-long relationships with a commitment to advance the medical care for the impoverished and under served populations, particularly in the Dominican Republic.
About AZDMF
The Arizona Dominican Medical Friends (AZDMF) is a 501(c) (3) tax exempt philanthropic organization established in 2003. In 2005 the founder, a prominent valley surgeon, assembled a premier medical team of volunteer doctors and nurses who annually travel to the Dominican Republic to mentor and foster educational programs and provide free of charge surgery in collaboration with Hospital Metropolitano de Santiago (HOMS).
These highly skilled and deeply committed health professionals specialize in the areas of Orthopedics, General, ENT, Gynecological surgery and Anesthesia. The team’s unique expertise is the outcome of years of devoted practice in surgical centers & hospitals throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area.
The educational component of AZDMF strives to institute a collaborative relationship in the offering of instruction and private hands on demonstrations of surgical techniques and educational training for the residents at HOMS. Our nurses have begun an orientation program to enlist nurses into the perioperative environment.
Each team member prepares for their journey throughout the year by participating in the collection, sorting and shipping of donated equipment and supplies from the sponsors listed on our contributors webpage, collecting monetary donations and participating in our annual medical book drive and children’s book collection.
Our History
AZDMF’s medical team and mission supporters have conducted nine medical missions since their first mission in 2005. Due to the generosity and continued support of our contributors both corporate and individual AZDMF has been able to give medical attention to more than 1500 patients and perform over 400 critical surgeries. More than $1 million dollars worth of medical supplies and equipment has been utilized and over $160,000 has been spent to cover flights, room & board and shipping in the eight years the foundation has been in operation.
